The Valley of Aire in England is where the Airedale Terrier was developed. Here, manufacturing workers trained them to be capable hunters as well as powerful, wise security dogs and companions.

Life
11 to 14 years
Colour Collection
Black and tan or grizzle and tan are both colours found in the Airedale Terrier’s coat.
Hair fall
The short, wiry coat of the Airedale Terrier needs weekly grooming to minimise shedding. Other than that, this breed doesn’t shed much.
Three to four times a year, complete grooming, including bathing, brushing, and cutting, should be performed.
Health
In general, Airedale Terriers are a healthy breed. Breeders that are responsible look for hip dysplasia.
Breed History
Ironically, the Airedale Terrier, known as the king of Terriers, was bred by factory workers and mill workers who wanted dogs to hunt ducks and vermin, not by members of the aristocracy. The Otterhound, Irish Terrier, and Bedlington Terrier are a few of the breeds that are related to the Airedale.
Airedales have excelled in a variety of jobs throughout history. They carried messages for the British Armed Forces during World War I. They became known as “triple-threat” hunting dogs in America due to their prowess with waterfowl, upland game birds, and furry animals.
This breed has repeatedly shown its versatility in vocations ranging from ratter to big-game hunter, from fighter to herder, from K-9 cop to caretaker.
